Bradford on Avon school ready for expansion
PUPILS at Fitzmaurice Primary School in Bradford on Avon will benefit from three new classrooms as work is to start on an extension to expand the school.
An old classroom will be transformed into a new staff room and the old staff room will be turned into a multi-purpose group room with a kitchen for the children. The new building will have three new classrooms – to increase the total to 11.
Headteacher Tracey Dunn said: “We have been working with Wiltshire Council and architects to have a plan that is acceptable to the school and governors and suitable for the children.”
Chair of parent governors, Shane McCracken, said: “There should not be any disruption for parents. Builders won’t be having any access during drop-off times.
“There is an issue with parking anyway in Bradford on Avon so we encourage parents to walk if possible.
“It is going to be an exciting time for the school and children. There will be more staff, different specialisms and families in Bradford on Avon will be able to have somewhere for their children to go to school.”
Wiltshire Council is managing and financing the project and work is expected to finish around Easter 2014.
