A message from the people behind the Farmers Market

Dear Bradford on Avonites,
I would like to introduce myself as the new Market Manager for WFMA at Bradford on Avon. I look forward to meeting with many of you over the coming months and hearing your suggestions as to what you would like to see at your local Farmers Market.
I am very aware that the profile of the market has slipped in recent years and that there is an inadequate product and trader presence to make your shopping experience a fulfilling one. I would like to assure you that things shall be improving over the coming months with fresh input.
This Thursdays market we welcomed Greens of Glastonbury who went down a storm with their lovely cheeses and The Wessex Pig, selling high quality pork products including gluten-free sausages. Another new addition has been Plain Fresh, selling high quality vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free foods, who shall be starting a range of ready meals and soups over the Winter months.
Many of you are stalwart supporters of our regular traders V.P Collins of Bromham who sell an exciting variety of vegetables and Glam Lamb with their superior product and friendly smiles and The Wiltshire Smiokehouse offering lovely smoked products as well as a range of apple juices. Recent months have seen the return of Cotswold Edge Farm who traded at Westbury Gardens in the past, selling everything from chicken to eggs.
We’re very excited that the lovely ladies of Oxfam are taking a stall next month, October, to highlight the Grow campaign that is tackling such subjects as Land Grabbing in Africa. They shall be setting out a special area to emphasise this issue and have also kindly agreed to sell Fairtrade teas and coffees at a reasonable price, to create a Community Space within the market. A feature we hope to continue in the future with added Education and Information boards. So come on down and have a chat.
Your Farmers Market is going to be the ”must do” shopping and social event over the coming months and I would like to remind everybody that it takes place on the Third Thursday of the month. When we see you on the 20th October, please ask one of the stallholders for a free six month calendar, that is the perfect size to stick on a Notice Board or the fridge. Designed by a local artist they are also rather pretty.
Bye for now,
Ellie Preston-Gill

Traffic fears sparked by Bath lorry ban
Read More“A ban on heavy lorries passing through Bath could impact on traffic levels passing through a Wiltshire town.
Councillors in Bath say the A36 is being used as a rat-run between the M4 and the south coast and are proposing an 18-month trial of the measure.
But Wiltshire Council fears lorries would leave the M4 at junction 17 at Chippenham instead, impacting the A363 through Bradford-on-Avon and the B3105.”

NatWest CommunityForce project

Communities are important to all of us. At the heart of each and every one you’ll find great people doing great things to make them better places.
NatWest CommunityForce is a new initiative which sees us working with local communities to support the people, projects and charities making a real difference where you live.
By applying to CommunityForce hundreds of local charities and projects stand to win an award of £6,000 each, with the winners decided by public vote in the autumn.
However, CommunityForce is about more than making a financial contribution. As well as providing a platform for projects to raise awareness of their work, we’ll also be providing our time and expertise and encouraging local people to volunteer their own time and talents to support the causes closest to their heart.
There are three main ways to get involved:
Apply: If you are a charity or project you can apply now to be in with a chance of winning an award.
Vote: In September everyone will be able to vote for their favourite projects. The three projects with the most votes in each CommunityForce area will win the awards.
Volunteer: When voting begins in the autumn, you’ll also be able to join NatWest staff in lending a hand to local projects looking for help.
