Newly-revamped sensory garden at Wiltshire Heights is Chippenham MP’s delight

CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan visited Wiltshire Heights care home in Bradford on Avon last Thursday August 8 to see its newly-revamped sensory gardens.

The project has been a joint effort by local police cadets and the bus driver team for the care home, bringing key community activists together.

She was particularly impressed with the garden’s green impact locally, saying it is something she has been championing since becoming a MP.

The garden’s new solar-powered water feature and additional plants will help boost efforts to create more green spaces and more natural habitats for local wildlife around the home.

The police cadets were recently presented with the Patrons Cup at their Annual Awards ceremony for their community work including the garden at Wiltshire Heights.

Local PCSO Luke George was also present to talk through the work of PC Charly Chilton and a team of Wiltshire police cadets who gave up their Easter holidays to transform part of the residents garden.

Libby Miles, Client Services Manager for Wiltshire Heights, said: “It is amazing what the cadets achieved in such a short space of time.

“They took control of the whole project drawing on each other’s experiences and knowledge.

“They are an amazing, respectful and mature group of youngsters and our residents will be forever grateful for all of their hard work.”

The garden has been entered into two competitions, South West in Bloom’s In Your Neighbourhood and Porthaven’s own inter- company garden challenge.

Miss Donelan said: “The new remodelled gardens are a stunning addition to the local area and will provide a relaxing open area for residents and their families to enjoy, while also aiding the local landscape.”

“These gardens will be a long-lasting reminder of the incredible achievement of these volunteers and local community activists.

“The local PCSO who grafted with the cadets talked to me about how passionate the young cadets were about the project. Thank you to everyone who was involved.”
