Three Gables sold, might become restaurant

From the Wiltshire Times:

“The former tearooms and restaurant, known locally as The Three Gables, in St Margaret’s Street was bought at the auction, held at The Swan Hotel on Wednesday, by builder Mike Burbidge, on behalf of Howard Booty, who wants to start renovation work in spring 2010 to turn the building into a wine bar, restaurant or bistro, which he will let out.”

Changes to Kingston Mills plans

Over the last few months much of the 6¼ acre Kingston Mills site has been cleared (mostly factories built during the second half of the 20th century). Construction work on the residential phases of the project is about to start, including 30% affordable housing (both rental and shared equity).

The developers, Linden Homes, are now planning to request planning permission for a number of changes to the areas of the scheme closest to the town centre.

The proposed changes result from close scrutiny of the town-end of the site in the light of the current and anticipated future state of the commercial market – given that the current commercial mix was formulated as part of the planning application submitted back in 2006.

The new plans reflect the desire both to make Lamb Yard work strongly as an important new urban space for the town and to explore new possibilities for some of the upper level floors of the historic buildings.

These drawings provide an overview of what is proposed. The planning application will be submitted at the end of October/early November, at which time details will be exhibited in the town (probably in the Library) so that people can register their views. Watch this space for an update later in the month.

The plans are already being discussed by the KM Stakeholder Group of town councillors, community groups etc that has been meeting regularly with the developers since 2004.
