Local award-winners

A small Bradford on Avon firm Brandyclassics, have recently won the Cognac Grand Master Award at the Cognac Masters 2011 in London as well as Masters Medals for three of its luxury cognacs, the Hermitage 25 year old Grande Champagne, 1988 Grande Champagne and the 43 year old Grand Champagne. More than 50 other cognacs were competing including some well known names.

Brandyclassics have been established in Bradford on Avon for fifteen years. Although small, Brandyclassics is known for its range of Hermitage Pure Vintage Cognacs which is exported to many countries including Russia and China. The firm is unique as it is the only specialist vintage cognac supplier in the world, buying its cognacs from the very finest and oldest cognac distillers and selling them to leading hotels and restaurants throughout the world. After several visits to both China and Russia, valuable export contracts have been won and the firm is hopeful of obtaining some major supply agreements in China.

As specialist suppliers, Brandyclassics also sells very old vintage cognacs, some dating back to around 1800. The value of these old cognacs are increasing with time and they are becoming more and more difficult to find. However, over the years the company has developed strong relationships with leading players in France and is in a strong position to source these rare nectars.

Brandyclassics has enjoyed a year of growth and the future looks rosy for the firm which is hoping to pick up substantial export orders in 2012.

Wiltshire Wood Recycling

Hi All, some of you may know of this centre. (I didn’t, I was informed by a fellow BOA free-cycler)
It recycles wood and sells to the public and lower costs.
Apparently it’s been running a few years. I bought a few strips of wood mouldings (Which are normally quite expensive  in the DIY shops) they sell theirs for 70p a meter. Below is the website link & a video. Their based just off from the Castle Combe race track near Chippenham.

Creative workspace hub opens in former glove factory near Bradford on Avon

An inspirational new creative workspace and cultural hub for small businesses based in and around mid Wiltshire has opened on the site of a former glove factory in Holt, near Bradford on Avon.

Glove Factory Studios features 8,000 sq ft of contemporary office, studio, café, meeting room and event space, set around an attractive courtyard overlooking open countryside.

The Glove Factory has been set up by designer Nick Kirkham in partnership with Alix Paver, a design graduate of Bath Spa University who went on to become Creative Director of The Partners, one of London’s top design groups.

Kirkham has considerable experience in developing contemporary co-working spaces.  Together with his brother, he set up Westbourne Studios and Great Western Studios – two of London’s largest creative workspace complexes and now home to over 400 creative designer makers.

Having relocated to the Corsham area, Kirkham and Paver both wanted to set up their practices in an inspiring building with good transport links nearby. They soon realised that the vast majority of spaces available for small businesses were above existing shops, or on bland industrial parks in local market towns.  What they were after was a more characterful building with industrial heritage, open plan spaces, in a strategic location, with good access and facilities.

Now the team is passionately keen to see similar co-working spaces thrive in the region, where creative and knowledge based businesses can cluster around shared facilities and a cultural hub.

“Research shows that there is a distinct shortage of contemporary, well designed co-working office space for small businesses in and around Wiltshire – something I’m keen to change,” says Kirkham.  “I believe inspirational working environments are hugely important to small companies, helping foster creativity, innovation and collaboration with like-minded businesses. With Glove Factory Studios, we’ve set out to create a very dynamic work space in a rural setting, yet with a distinctive urban vibe.”

Space at Glove Factory Studios ranges from serviced studios and open plan offices, through to meeting rooms and desk spaces hired on hourly rates.  Already, the site has attracted a number of dynamic small businesses.

“Glove Factory Studios is aimed at any small business or individual who likes the idea of working in a dynamic community of small businesses,” says Kirkham.  “We’re particularly well suited to businesses working in the environmental, IT technology and creative industries.  We are currently programming regular peer to peer talks and cultural events.  It’s all about helping people achieve a better work-life balance and thriving in an inspiring environment.”

New estate agency opens in BoA

On 1st March a new chapter began at 27 Market Street in Bradford-on-Avon. Jeremy Jenkins Estate Agents opened at the premises in which Jeremy Jenkins was born.

From here his father traded as Avon Antiques from the 1960s until his retirement last year.

The business is family owned and staffed by Jeremy and his local team. With years of experience in the property market Jeremy is building a portfolio of property for sale in Bradford-on-Avon, Box, Corsham and the surrounding villages.

This is where we live and work, where we grew up and where our children are at school, it’s the best place to live in the world.
