BoA wins “City for a Day” contest
Bradford on Avon was named as the winner of BBC Radio 5 Live’s “City for a Day” competition this morning.
From the Wiltshire Times:
Bradford on Avon has triumphed in the contest to become the 5 Live City of 2012 this morning. All week residents and visitors to the town have been voting to make the town an unofficial city for a day and have Tony Livesey present his BBC radio show from the town. It was announced just before 9am on the 5 Live Breakfast Show that the town beat off competition from the other two shortlisted towns, Whitby and Bungay.
It’s not yet clear exactly what being “City for a Day” will entail, nor when it will happen. We’ll post more details on this site when we hear them.

Congratulations to Bradford on Avon on winnincg the City for a Day competition. We did our best here in Bungay in what was a fun contest, and now we wish Bradford well for their day with Five Live next week. I think our towns are similar in many ways – set on beautiful rivers, with a lot of history and legend and also modern amenities. Our invitation to the people of Bradford is – come and visit us sometime!
Well done and good luck
Terry Reeve
Town Mayor of Bungay
